TV's Magic's Biggest Secrets Revealed: What?

...is it just me, or this is a disgrace to community?...
I'm aware that it's not a brand new show, and I've heard about it from some magicians, but it's the first time I'm actually watching it.
This is just outrageous!!!
Who's behind it, and why the community is not going after the network and creatorts???
Isn't it our livelihood????
I'm just an assistant, but I feel offended!!!!

Am I the only one who feels that way?

My Dearest Palma,

Here's my take on the masked Magician,

Also I can't stand the narrator who mostly give side remarks about the lovely assistants and the fact that he is exposing magic that is being sold at local magic stores. Maybe a white tiger will maul him one day.

Hi Palma
It is another example of the lack of unity that permeates the profession today. The perpetrator is well known to the magic fraternity as is the reason for the betrayal. He has been rewarded with a small fortune for his willingness to reveal what all of us hold so dearly close to ourselves but the really is no way to stop these things from happening.

not to change the subject, but does anyone know if his (masked magician) show has been renewed for another year or has his show been cancelled?

that you think that you need to amaze the person to make him feel good is something I dont understand, but well, we are two different people

you dont get it mr mandarin, you only seek truth in your own thoughts. Because in my eyes its people like you that we look at as, mr magician. We are THE magician here. In my eyes everything you said complies to you, isnt that weird? Do you understand that I say that try to be an entertainer because of the fact that I dont want to call myself a magician, just like I said? But not because I feel so high of myself, but because I am humble and fully aware of the fact that I am using it for less then a month. I cant call myself a magician because of the fact that I am not a professional like you or other on this site? Do you like to mislead yourself? Its not that I am not satisfied if I would be called a magician, it would be an honour!!!! The both of us see magic just differently, you want to amaze like you say (in my eyes be a big show off, but hey that are just personal feelings, the ones like you have about me) and I just want to make people feel good. When you lose the secret you are mad and I can understand that, the whole reason why you do magic is getting raped. On my side its a little different, because I do it to make people feel good, so when the amazed part should be know I just compensate it with alot of making people feel good moments in which case the known effect would get unimportant. I would misdirect them completely from the whole effect that after "the performances" your crowd even didnt remember the effect.
We only live in both worlds of magic and I am just an entertainer Mr Magic Mandarin. Dont get the facts wrong, In my eyes you need to be a professional to be called a magician, and I am sorry you searched for the truth in your own thoughts and came up with that

" A song is to a musician as a trick is to a magician."

Except that most songs do not intend to end in amazement, wonder, a sense of witnessing a feat that can not be done, excepting perhaps Johnny Mathis. So, if that is not important to you, go sing your magic...

Magician
Magician & Entertainer
Entertainer

In that order. Many are not satisfied to be "just" a magician. Perhaps because they are not really very competent at it. But, it seems, even some of those who are, strain to reach the third tier - to be a pure "entertainer".

With that I have no issue - indeed "follow your bliss". I just think those of us who want to do really good magic should be allowed to follow ours also. Those who really think someone who knows how the effect is done walks away with wonder just don't get it...

If you are entertaining enough they stop thinking like that and let you entertain. I try to make them think I am not trying to "fool them". Though I admit my comedy laid back style loosens them up enough to enjoy it. You always get someone who hates magicians, I just tell them it's because they never saw the right one. If they let me perform for me they realize what I said was right and go away with appreciation of a good "ENTERTAINER" . A song is to a musician as a trick is to a magician.

my friend, do you mislead yourself with your magic? People think they wanna know the secret but in realilty they dont want to know it. You say it yourself: when they know it the magic is over? So in reality they dont come to detect the secret but to be entertained. If that was not the case people would stop going to magicians show because they normally never see the secret. If that secret was everything in yout show you wouldnt have any people coming to your shows anymore cause of the simple fact that they would be dissapointed every time, because you dont show that secret. So in that case people come for another reason, and that reason is to be entertained.

"I can understand that our point of views could be different."

And that difference is what makes a good debate fun!

Going a bit deeper into magic theory, you find complex routines designed to eliminate from the spectator's mind all rational ways the magic could have been done. Why do magicians go to such trouble? Because even if the spec THINKS they know how the trick is done, you lose the "magic" of the magic. They may applaud, they may give every indication you did a great performance, but in their mind it was not magic, because they knew how it was done, or at least thought they did.

It is an interesting topic, and certainly one important to our art. Then again, I think the reason exposure continues is simply that no one has figured out a reasonable way to deal with it. Indeed, ignoring it may be the best answer, given few other options...
