Dai vernon is the earliest reference I have of the ambitious card from "stars of magic" which d blaine performs....the rising card has existed for a good hundred years.
Another simple paddle idea is to draw a crude bug or spider on the end of one side, and closer to the handle on the other. Ask kids to try to catch the bug, and flip it to make the big seem to avoid them.
Yes Marvin, I did a paddle trick once with a pencil and really it is easier to use than most flat paddle handles. I did the pencil trick wherein I erased the pencil's brand and copied it on both sides. I remember seeing a version of the paddle trick…
Just a thought...........
What would you do if you SUDDENLY found yourself in a position where you either
WANTED to perform, NEEDED to perform, or HAD to perform Without your "bag of tricks" ?????????
I know that some wiser magi than myself have wr…
Absolutely. Old props had fake looking labels, especially gimmicked soda bottles.
That's one way magic has definitely improved.
I think the intention of Joshua Jay's book was to offer tricks that could be made without visiting a magic shop. (With s…
I read Joshua Jay's book and I agree he had a lot of effects there using everyday objects. The best thing about using everyday objects is that it has a very big impact since it appears to be that an object is unprepared.
Close-up (cards/coins/other), Parlor Magic (magic for audiences larger than close-up and smaller than audiences for stage magic), Stage Magic (large magic / illusions performed on stage for larger audiences) - famous magicians include David Copperfield / Lance Burton
About Me:
Hello magic lovers,
I'm a semi-pro. I started studying the performing art of magic after receiving a magic kit at age 10. At first I was intimidated by the thought of trying to fool people who were older than me. I took lessons in magic at age 14; this really sparked my interest.
I've performed in just about every venue that you could imagine, from strolling-close up style magic, to private and corporate functions, and even did some cruise ship work! My largest audience, which was for a company event, was 800 people ! Typically I do about 100 shows a year, for anywhere from 30 - 300 people at a time.
Now, at age 42, with thousands of performances behind me - I've come to find that adults are easier to fool than children! But I think children are a better audience , cause they REALLY BELIEVE it's MAGIC !
thanks nick, for the advice, sorry I have'nt answered you sooner, but having trouble finding my way @..... regards mark

Hi Nick!
You'll have a chance at a Limited-Edition Magicians.com T-Shirt simply by visiting on Tuesday (9/16), tomorrow, at 8pm CST for a live video chat with our Guest of Honor, Justin Meitz! Also, I may be randomly selecting members who participate in the discussion with Justin throughout the week!
Dear Nick!
Thanks for your aswer!
I come from Central-Europe and here it is a little bit different to the other world.
In the forums from the old world most older magicians belive that they are better and cooler than the young ones, forgetting that years ago they also were young.
Getting help in some questions is nearly impossible.
Thats why I decided another time to go to an international platform.
Now, I´m here!
(Glad to be so)
At the moment I´m reading a lot of old magic books and training some tricks with cards and trying to get the right feeling for misdirection.
Most of the magicians here say, If you not be able to perform a trick 100% right, you should not perform it!
I say: If I don´t try performing on an spectator, I will never get the feeling for my audience!
If I perform, sometimes little things go wrong, but I´m controling my nervousness everytime better!
Nick , i investigate, and renee is from argentina just like fantasio and Henry Evans. Some great magicians here in venezuela are mago sandro, luis otero, great henry , henry jr. , and others.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. You are right. If I don't use it I will lose it and that's not something I want to happen. I have spent countless hours growing up practicing and performing. My father is actually from TN. The Martin, Weakly County area. I am going to try to convince him into going to the convention this summer in KY.
