I think I will start Setting up a Discussion about good books and there philosophy. I also was told my a great mentalist/magician "the magic really takes place after the effect is done not wile the trick is in mid play." Thats because it all happends in there head. During the reconstruction of the the effect.

I hope I got that through clearly enough.

when I learn a trick I first learn the sleights.....but then I focus on presentation: the way I move,the tone of my voice,if I'm trying to make you laugh or just stare at what is going on

1) Magic In Theory By: Peter Lamont and Richard Wiseman.
2) Win the Crowd By: Steve Cohen
3) Maximum Entertainment By:Ken Weber
4) Showmanship for Magicians By: Dariel Fitzkee
5) Mystery School By: Jeff McBride and Eugen Burger.

Well Chriss is an interesting subject with respect to philosophy of magic in terms of his utliziing everything at his disposal to make "magic". In terms of using lighting, setting, camera angles, and arrangement he's a master. I am not going to bash him for using his creativity in a way that may/might offend other magiciansbecause it's not sleight of hand...He's to be praised for taking camera tricks to a new height and making them appear to be magical.

That aside this is a forum about magic philosophy...Suggest everyone go to the library or H & R Magic books and get the following: Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz & Beyond Secrets by Jay Sankey along with several others by Eugene Burger & Simon Lovell will give you a good basis for a magic philosophy. Mine is pretty simple...To elicit the most wonder and highest degree of smiles in response to my performance(s). That's it my philosophy in a nutshell. If I accomplosh both those than I'm stoked.

I joined this group to discuss "Philosophy of Magic". Please folks, don't hijack this group and turn it into something that is just a waste of time. Keep the comments ON TOPIC.

Mozex,

Yes Criss Angel has a staged audience SOME TIMES and I totally disagree with that. But a lot of what you see on his tv show, he is axtually doing the sleight oh hand and stuff.

What I am trying to say is, that I am sure if you met criss angel he could blow YOUR or anybodys mind with you being "In on the trick"

When I see you as big and famous as he is, then I will be happy to listen to you bash him :)

On another note...I'm glad you all are here and discussing...How about starting new discussions up above in the "discussion forum". Marty Gorman seems to have started a mini discussion w/ Mozex about "Magicians and Performers".....What's say we move it from comments to discussions..?

We can also do something about ethical practices of magicians and our feelings on using confederates, feelings on gimmicked or organic magic etc... But please don't single out Criss! (Keep in mind, this guy you bash has done more for the Magic community than anyone has in a while (Except for Ryan Ogaard of course!!))
