MAGIC FROM THE GRAVE
This is my review on the new DVD Magic from the Grave. Produced, Edited, and Directed by Todd Diamond. With special guest Bizarro and The Amazing Jonathan.
Video Production: 8/10 Video quality was good and so was the production of the video.
Teaching: 6/10 All explanations are “over the shoulder” teaching which really helped. The teaching of the video was a bit frustrating at first because it was a little rushed and not thoroughly slowed down much. You will have to rewind it again and watch it in detail. But the sleights are not that long and difficult.
Tricks:
Bamf: Don’t know what Bamf means but it’s a trick from Bizzaro. The trick is a clean and visual transposition of a card. Not really a new concept just different handling but it is very visual with a “stab in the gut” ending. It’s a LONG explanation and a bit funny, I think the explanation of this trick took almost half of the DVD. 8/10
Coins from the Grave: 2 visual productions with an audible and visual vanish. A quick and beautiful 2 coin production. This is a coin vanish I honestly have not seen before. It’s easy and I love to perform it anytime. 8/10
Spellbound for the Dead: Visual changes one after another with a “stab in the gut “ending. Too me, it’s kind of like Chris Kenner’s Hell bound spellbound routine in a different way. The sleights overall are pretty fun to do and one thing I really liked about it was that there was only “one” (I hope some magicians would get the hint, especially if they know how to do Hell bound Spellbound.) 7/10
Tombstone Change: A selected card is shuffled and buried into the deck. An indifferent card is shown and still holding the card with no funny moves, the card changes into the spectators chosen card. I really liked this card control, too me it’s kind of fun and invisible if done at the right situations. Plus, it fooled me as a magician. But the change itself is a bit difficult and angle sensitive. I think this change would be good for TV shows or table work. 5/10
Bonus/Extras:
• Backstory of how Todd Diamond really died from the last video…lol..
• Bloopers are really funny, like always
• Interview with the Amazing Jonathan
Overall: In my opinion, I would say that this DVD would be great for the close up magician, strolling, or purist. These effects are not that difficult and they are all very visual. I also liked the storyline behind the video, its original and well produced. Sleights are not as difficult but like always they require practice. I liked the idea of incorporating other magicians in DVD’s especially with a one-on-one interview. This is a good DVD to get if you want to learn more sleights that you can build on and mix with your routine. I rate Magic from the Grave 7/10
