It is very easy to perform, but you must keep in mind that it is a stage effect and should only be performed on a stage. It requires rehearsal, timing and showmanship.
Kipp stated this very well. Stage illusions require stages to perform on. They also require consistent, dedicated assistants. They also require a LOT of rehearsal and a lot of thinking.
I remember seeing Denny and Lee work at a convention a long time ago. Denny knows what it takes!
The main thing that you MUST have is a basic story for presenting the illusion. Mac King has one of the cleverest ideas for this that I could imagine. It would be very tempting to copy it, but it would also be wrong.
So, if you decide that you want to do this illusion, spend some time scripting it and choreographing it on paper before you invest the money. You and your audiences will be glad you did!
One way to "try out an illusion" before investing a lot of money in it, is to build a full-sized working proto-type from PVC Pipe or cardboard. Jim Gerrish has many of his plans for PVC Pipe Illusions for the Really, Really Cheap Illusionist on my site. You don't have to be cheap to use them, however, just cautious and frugal. Many of the illusions can be used just as they are made from PVC pipe. A good proto-type allows you to see how the illusion is built (for very little cost - usually under $50 for most illusions), but then you can rehearse with it, work out staging and lighting, etc., and even use it in a few trial performances before you decide you want to make or buy a more expensive version.
get the book Illusiontech 1.
ou can find the shadow tent in there and you can make it yourself for 50 euro's (so says the introduction of the book)
There are other illusions in the book which you can make yourself going from 1 euro to 10.000,00 euro.
You can even make a head twister yourself for 1 euro, a stretcher illusion for 75 euro...
The book itself should be around the 45 euro's so probably 50-60 dollars. Its better to buy the book and make it yourself then to buy the trick and then come to the conclusion you cant use it...
Thanks Vynn. I just did a 40th birthday party and decided to do my cut and restored rope as a close up item. I have never had such a strong reaction to that trick in 30 years ... one of the guests kept following me around to watch the rope trick.
Hijinx,
I feel your pain and with experience I have decided that I will not do just walk around close up magic for a group of less than 75. Depending on the crowd there are many different directions you can go. On my web page I give one direction a…
